Dr Gervais studied medicine at the Queen’s University of Belfast. After completing his undergraduate degree, he undertook basic surgical training in the UK. He subsequently moved to live in Australia and completed advanced orthopaedic training in Queensland. He was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons in 2008.

He undertook further sub specialist training in hand and peripheral nerve surgery at the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney and Westmead Children’s Hospital. He specialises in upper limb surgery. His sub-speciality interests include peripheral nerve surgery and congenital upper-limb conditions.

Dr Gervais has established his private practice at St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital. He also works at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital where he participates in the hand and micro vascular on call roster, as well as treating elective upper limb conditions.

Dr Gervais was deputy director of orthopaedic surgery at the Royal Children’s Hospital from 2009 until its closure in late 2014. He continues to work at the new Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital where he focuses on congenital abnormalities.

Dr Gervais also has a keen interest in upper limb spasticity and is involved with upper limb surgery in patients with cerebral palsy, as well as spasticity that may develop as a consequence of stroke and head injuries. He also participates in the Brachial Plexus clinic at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
