Health funds unfortunately do not cover the costs of outpatient consultations. A proportion of the consult fees may be refunded through Medicare.
Most of the surgical fees are based on recommendations provided by the Australian Medical Association. Many health funds only cover a portion of the recommended fees and the remaining costs represent a gap payment or out-of-pocket payment.
An estimate of costs can be provided if you’re considering surgery. Prior to all elective surgery, an Informed Financial Consent form is provided to ensure that you are aware of the breakdown of costs.
There may be additional costs as well as the surgery fees. These may include the anaesthetic fee and also fees for investigations such as x-rays that may be required in theatre.
